The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced it will stage its first-ever T20 International tri-series later this year, featuring Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. The tournament begins on November 17 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium with Pakistan taking on Afghanistan, according to a PCB press release. The event has been designed to provide crucial preparation for all three sides ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played next year in India and Sri Lanka.
The tri-series will also mark Afghanistan’s first-ever T20I appearance on Pakistani soil, having previously played five ODIs in the country, the most recent of which came against Australia during the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year. After the opening clash, Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan on November 19 in Rawalpindi, while the remaining five T20Is, including the final on November 29, will be held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
Before the tri-series, Pakistan is set to host South Africa in October and November for a two-match Test series as part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27, along with three T20Is and three ODIs scheduled from October 12 to November 8.
PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed said the tri-series will not only serve as strong preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup but will also deliver exciting cricket for fans across venues. He added that after successfully hosting the ICC Champions Trophy and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier earlier this year, the PCB has demonstrated its ability to stage major international events back-to-back at the highest level.
