“Currently, our country is going through a difficult time. Myself and Shaheen Afridi will donate tri-nation series earnings to all affected by floods back home,” Agha shared in a heartfelt post on X. He further urged his fellow cricketers to follow suit, writing, “I’d encourage our stars to donate in rebuilding for those whose lives are destroyed.”
The gesture comes as Pakistan reels from its second catastrophic monsoon flooding in just three years. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), more than 900 people have lost their lives since late June, over 1,400 villages in Punjab have been submerged, and over one million people have been displaced.
The announcement followed Pakistan’s emphatic 75-run win over Afghanistan in the tri-series final at Sharjah. Spinner Mohammad Nawaz delivered a career-best performance, taking 5/19 to rip through Afghanistan’s batting order. Defending a modest 141, Pakistan bowled out their opponents for only 66 runs. Shaheen Afridi gave the team a strong start by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz early, before Nawaz stole the show with a stunning hat-trick, removing Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Ibrahim Zadran in quick succession. He went on to dismiss Karim Janat and Rashid Khan to complete his maiden five-wicket haul.
Earlier in the innings, Pakistan’s batting had wavered but was steadied by valuable contributions from Salman Ali Agha (24 off 27) and Nawaz (25 off 21), guiding the team to a defendable 141-8. The victory not only sealed the tri-series title but also highlighted the players’ commitment to using their platform for a greater cause beyond cricket.
